Siesta Key in October: Weather, Crowds and the Best Things to Do

Sunset over Siesta Key, Sarasota

Updated November 2, 2026: October has wrapped up. For this month, see Siesta Key in November 2026, and check this week’s Siesta Key events.

There is a certain kind of Florida magic that only shows up in October. The summer thunderheads start packing their bags, the Gulf is still bathwater-warm, and the snowbirds have not yet arrived to claim their spots on the sand. For a few golden weeks, Siesta Key feels like the old postcards: wide open beach, a breeze off the water, and a sunset that seems to have been ordered special for you.

If you are planning a fall getaway, here is what to expect from Siesta Key in October, and how to make the most of it.

October Weather on Siesta Key

October is the hinge of the year here. Daytime highs typically sit in the mid-to-upper 80s early in the month and ease toward the low 80s by Halloween, with evenings dipping into the upper 60s and low 70s. The Gulf usually holds onto its summer warmth, often hovering around 80 degrees, which makes for long, lazy swims.

The humidity finally loosens its grip, and the daily afternoon storms of summer become less frequent as the dry season settles in. That said, Atlantic hurricane season officially runs through November 30, so keep an eye on the forecast and consider travel insurance. It is also smart to check current beach and water conditions before you go. Mote Marine Laboratory publishes a beach conditions report that locals rely on.

Fewer Crowds, Easier Parking

Here is the real secret of October: elbow room. Summer families have gone home, and peak season does not ramp up until the winter months. That means an easier time at the Siesta Beach parking lot, shorter waits for a table in Siesta Key Village, and more of that famous quartz sand to yourself.

Weekends still get lively, especially on a pretty day, so arrive early if you are headed to the main public beach on a Saturday or Sunday.

The Best Things to Do on Siesta Key in October

Watch the Sunset from the Water

October sunsets are some of the best of the year, and they arrive at a civilized hour. Sunset lands a little after 7 p.m. early in the month and slides to around 6:50 p.m. by the end of October. Seeing it from the deck of a boat, with the skyline behind you and the Gulf going gold in front, is the kind of evening you remember. Barefoot Tiki Tours runs sunset and sandbar cruises out of Sarasota, and private charters for up to 16 guests if you would rather keep the boat to your own crew.

Full disclosure: Siesta Key Things To Do is written by the team behind Barefoot Tiki Tours, so we know that boat well. We point you to other good options too. More about us.

Join the Siesta Key Drum Circle

Every Sunday, about an hour before sunset, drummers, dancers and hula-hoopers gather on Siesta Beach just south of the main pavilion. It has been a weekly ritual for roughly three decades, and it is free. Bring a chair, bring a drum if you have one, and stay until the sun drops.

Browse the Sunday Farmers Market

The Siesta Key Farmers Market sets up Sunday mornings in Siesta Key Village at 5211 Ocean Blvd. Expect produce, local vendors, crafts and a good cup of coffee within walking distance of the beach. Hours shift a bit by season, so check the market page before you go.

Head Downtown on Saturday Morning

The Sarasota Farmers Market on Main Street and Lemon Avenue runs every Saturday from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. It is one of the best people-watching mornings in town. Grab breakfast from a vendor and wander downtown afterward.

Catch the Season Opener at Towles Court

The Towles Court Art Walk returns for the season in October. The artist colony just off downtown opens its studios on the third Friday of each month from October through May, from 5 to 8 p.m., and admission is free. In 2026, that first art walk falls on Friday, October 16.

Spend a Day on the Sandbar

The warm water and lighter winds make October a sweet spot for a sandbar day. Wade in the shallows, look for dolphins on the ride out, and let the afternoon get away from you. Our guide to a day on the sandbar covers what to bring, and Barefoot Tiki’s longer sandbar fun cruise is $99 per person, and the dolphin and mimosa cruise starts at $60.

A Little Halloween on the Keys

By the end of the month, the Keys get into the spooky spirit, with costume nights at the beach bars and Halloween happenings around Sarasota. New for 2026, Barefoot Tiki Tours is launching the Boos Cruise, a Halloween-season outing on the water. Check barefoottiki.com for dates and details.

What to Pack for October

  • Reef-safe sunscreen. The sun is still strong, even when the air feels mild.
  • A light layer. Evenings on the water can get breezy after sunset.
  • Water shoes. Handy for sandbars and rocky stretches.
  • A flexible plan. A rain shower or a change in conditions can shuffle a beach day, so keep a backup in your pocket.

Plan Your Week

October rewards people who plan a little and wander a lot.
