Siesta Key Crystal Classic 2026: Your Guide to the Sand Sculpting Festival

A detailed sand sculpture on the white quartz sand of Siesta Key Beach

When is the 2026 Siesta Key Crystal Classic? The international sand sculpting festival runs Friday, November 13 through Monday, November 16, 2026, on Siesta Beach at 948 Beach Road. Visit Sarasota lists daily hours of 10 AM to 5:30 PM. Tickets are sold through the official festival website, and the free trolley is the easy way in.

Every November, the whitest sand on the Gulf turns into an open-air gallery. Castles rise, sea creatures curl out of the dunes, and faces appear in sand so fine that sculptors say the finished work looks carved in marble. It is one of the most charming weekends of the year on the Key, and it lands just as the fall weather turns perfect.

What is the Siesta Key Crystal Classic?

The Crystal Classic is a master sand sculpting competition and beach festival presented by the Siesta Key Chamber of Commerce. According to the festival’s history page, the first one was held November 18 to 21, 2010. The idea grew out of conversations between master sand sculptor Brian Wigelsworth and local partners including the Chamber, Sarasota County Parks and Recreation, and Mote Marine Laboratory.

Sculptors from around the world get 24 sculpting hours spread across the four days, and some pieces top ten feet tall. The organizers say the festival draws about 40,000 visitors. Around the sculptures you will find live music, local food and drink, shopping, sand sculpting demonstrations and family activities.

Can you enter the sand sculpting contest yourself?

Yes, and it is the most fun way to experience the weekend. The festival runs two amateur contests. The adult contest is Saturday, November 14, and you can build solo or with family, friends or coworkers. The youth contest is Sunday, November 15. Each youth registration covers the young artists and one adult.

  • Each team gets its own sand plot with access to water.
  • Bring your own buckets, sculpting tools, sunscreen and drinking water. Outside hoses are not allowed.
  • Sculptures must be family-friendly, with no political or offensive themes.
  • Guests who are not registered need a general admission ticket.

Registration runs through the Chamber’s ticketing page, linked from the 2026 Amateur Contest page. Start times and fees are listed there.

How do you get to the Crystal Classic?

The festival sits right on the main beach, which means it shares the main beach lot with everyone else on a busy November weekend. The organizers encourage carpooling and alternatives, especially the free 77 Siesta Islander trolley. It runs daily from 8 AM to 10 PM and stops at Siesta Beach, Siesta Key Village, South Village and Turtle Beach. They also point to Sarasota County Breeze bus Route 33, The Frog Hop, rideshare and walking.

If you do drive, our Siesta Key Beach parking guide covers the main lot, backups and timing.

Tips for a great day at the sand sculptures

  • Go twice if you can. The sculptures change a lot over four days. Friday shows the early carving, and Sunday or Monday shows the finished pieces.
  • Morning light is kindest. The sculptures cast softer shadows and the crowds are thinner before lunch.
  • Dress for the beach. Hats, sunscreen and shoes you do not mind filling with sand. November afternoons can still be warm.
  • Ride, don’t drive. The free trolley drops you at the beach, so nobody has to circle the lot.
  • Book your stay early. The festival fills rooms on the Key. The official site has a “Where to Stay” page.

What else is there to do on Siesta Key that weekend?

Make a long weekend of it. The Siesta Key Drum Circle gathers on Sunday, November 15, south of the main pavilion, starting about an hour before sunset. The Siesta Key Farmers Market sets up Sunday mornings in the Village. And by mid-November the sunsets come early and golden, which makes it a lovely time to be out on the water.

If you want to see the Key from the bay side after a day in the sand, Barefoot Tiki Tours runs sunset cruises on a USCG-certified boat with a thatched roof that carries a maximum of 16 passengers. It departs from 1101 10th Street in downtown Sarasota, and public cruises start at $60 per person.

Full disclosure: Siesta Key Things To Do is written by the team behind Barefoot Tiki Tours, so we know that boat well. We point you to other good options too. More about us.
